What is Infrastructure?

In this interview, Professor Claudia Derichs, Professor of Transregional Southeast Asian Studies at Humboldt University of Berlin, explains what infrastructure is and how it relates to social, cultural, political processes and our daily lives. The interview was recorded as part of a presentation of the research consortium De:link//Re:link – Local perspectives on transregional processes of (dis)entanglements at the Long Night of Sciences at Humboldt University of Berlin on 28 June 2025. The Long Night of Sciences is a popular science communication event, with more than 50 science institutions from Berlin and Potsdam presenting themselves to a interested public. With up to 30,000 visitors, it is one of Berlin’s major annual events.
